Do you ever find yourself staring at the gym equipment, feeling unmotivated and unsure of what to do next? Are you struggling to stay on track with your fitness goals? Trust me, you’re not alone. Before I found CrossFit I was a 3 session a week gym go’er with no real plan. It did wonders for my mental health and I felt good about myself but the lack of progression and without having a solid plan usually ended up leaving me stale and unmotivated.
Staying motivated in fitness is one of the biggest challenges people face. But don’t give up just yet! With a few simple mindset shifts and techniques, you can unlock your fitness potential and achieve your goals.
The Power of Motivation
Motivation is like the key that unlocks the door to your fitness potential. Without it, you’ll struggle to make progress and reach your goals. But with it, you can unlock a world of possibilities.
Think of motivation like the fuel in your car. Without it, you won’t get very far. But with it, you can go places you never thought possible. The same is true for your fitness journey. Without motivation, you won’t make progress. But with it, you can achieve your goals and become the best version of yourself.
The Hurdles We Face
So why is it so hard to stay motivated? There are many hurdles we face when it comes to fitness, such as:
- Feeling intimidated by the gym or other people
- Struggling to see progress
- Lack of time or energy
- Negative self-talk or self-doubt
These hurdles can be overwhelming and lead to a lack of motivation. But don’t worry, there are ways to overcome them.
The Mindset Shifts That Matter
One of the most powerful ways to stay motivated is by shifting your mindset. Instead of focusing on the negatives, such as what you can’t do or what you haven’t achieved, focus on the positives. Here are a few mindset shifts that can make a big difference:
- Instead of saying “I can’t,” say “I will try.”
- Instead of focusing on the end result, focus on the journey and celebrate small victories along the way.
- Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your own progress and growth.
- Instead of giving up when you face a setback, use it as motivation to try harder.
By shifting your mindset, you can turn obstacles into opportunities.
The Techniques That Work
In addition to mindset shifts, there are also techniques you can use to stay motivated. Here are a few:
- Set achievable goals: Instead of setting vague goals like “get in shape,” set specific, achievable goals such as “be able to run a 5k” or “lift X amount of weight.”
- Find a workout buddy: Having a workout partner can help keep you accountable and provide motivation and support.
- Change up your routine: Doing the same workout over and over can lead to boredom and a lack of progress. Try switching things up by trying a new exercise or class. Luckily as a CrossFit gym, you can leave that to us! We thrive on constantly varied.
- Book your classes at the start of the week and make them a non negotiable. The fastest way to your goals is by showing up. You don’t have to be 100% every class. You just have to show up. This is physical and mental resilience training.
- Reward yourself: Treat yo’self! Yup. We said it. Coaches orders. Celebrate your progress with small rewards, such as a new workout outfit or a healthy treat.
By using these techniques, you can stay motivated and on track towards your fitness goals.
